A forward thinking academic team at Plymouth University was shortlisted for a Green Gown Award 2014 for introducing sustainability in healthcare into their nursing curriculum.
The Green Down Awards recognise excellence in sustainable practice in the academic world. The team, headed by Professor Janet Richardson, have embedded green issues into their skills training as well as linking up with the Design Department to create innovative products to make Nursing more resilient.
Green Lane Films was commissioned to make a film to impress the judges during the submission process. The team wanted to beat their competitors. They were determined to win the award and needed a film that would make it do just that. No pressure then!
Professor Janet Richardson approached Green Lane Films to make a film that would wow the judges. With a background in documentary production, Director Emma Goude used her 20 years filmmaking expertise to draw out the most important and most salient aspects of the training – sustainability in healthcare.
“Emma has an ability to grasp the elements of a story and tell it in a powerful and clear way that is very convincing. Her challenge was to take around 10 hours of film footage and produce a 10 minute film that captured the story we were trying to tell. What was impressive was that, in the first edit of the film, Emma had found a ‘golden thread’ to weave through the different aspects of the film in order to provide a strong and clear story. This film was instrumental in helping our team to win the Green Gown Award for Learning and Courses in November 2014.” – Professor Janet Richardson
The team received the Green Gown Award, thanks, says Professor Janet Richardson, to the video.
