Schumacher College is internationally renowned, offering ecology-centred masters programmes and short courses. You can even study holistic science. It attracts people from over 90 different countries, of all ages and backgrounds.
To celebrate their 25th year, they wanted to build a virtual campus that would connect people with thought-leaders, activists and inspirational teachers. Schumacher International Network for Change is a global network where people can share their expertise and collaborate on inspiring projects.
But the SINC was going to cost £25,000. Where were they going to find that kind of money?
They decided to have faith and tap into their most valuable asset – their database of contacts! They used a crowdfunding platform and set their target to raise the 25K in 25 days. Fortunately they opted not to go it alone. They consulted with the crowdfunding platform and with this expert guidance they were able to write a compelling script for a crowdfunding video. They needed to appeal to their alumni, those most likely to benefit from this online resource, and thus the most likely donors to the crowdfunding campaign.
They asked Green Lane Films to produce the crowdfunding video to help them realise their vision. It was a collaboration, choosing the right filming locations and the right people to be in it. They made sure to include all the familiar faces that potential donors would already know and love. Each were given a line from the script and spoke it to camera. Not everyone was a polished, confident voice but that just added to the authentic and human touch of the film.
Thanks to the right crowdfunding video and a large network of alumni they actually reached their target! Crowdfunding is still an effective solution if you have an inspiring project you want to create.
